Ms. Murray's Classes
Hello Families! Announcements:
We had a fabulous week! We worked on our animal yoga poses, and an animal greeting as well. Both classes enjoyed the story Zoo by Bruno Munari. We have been really enjoying learning about animals and how they live in their environments. Ms. Joanne and I focused on rules this week during a center. We read David Goes to School by David Shannon and had a lively discussion about rules. We asked them why we have rules and what some good classroom rules could be. On Wednesday, the students enjoyed using shaving cream to write letters and practice writing their name. This can be done at home too, it's messy but fun! On Thursday, the students made Friendship Soup with the help of Tenzo's mom, Talitha. Thanks to all who donated food and thank you for your help Talitha! The students loved cutting the vegetables and measuring the spices. The other class will make their own Friendship Soup soon! Ask your child: Did you read a story about a Zoo this week and the animals that were in the zoo? Tell me about that. Have a lovely vacation with your children! Ms. Murray

Hello Families, We enjoyed celebrating our friendships in class for Valentine's Day and wrapping up our ice cream shop in the dramatic play. They really enjoyed the ice cream party, where they ordered their real ice cream over the counter and paid for it in the dramatic play with Ms. Honi! We did tons of art this week! We mixed colors on heart shaped coffee filters with dot paints and water, which we hung up on the windows. We also experimented with shaving cream and water color, which was swirled around to make beautiful cards. Playing with shaving cream sure was fun! We worked on counting and coloring this week by rolling a dice and coloring in that many hearts. It was a great math activity, and it is something you can do at home! Ask Your Child: What was your favorite part about this week? Did you enjoy giving valentines to your friends? Have a wonderful weekend with your children! Ms. Murray Good afternoon Pre-K Families, Announcements:
We had a fun week of working hard and playing with friends! We've been working on building stamina in our drawing journals. I asked them to think about what they wanted to draw, and tell me before they started drawing. After filling up as much as they can for one whole page, they dictate what their drawing is and I write it on the page. We will be closing our ice cream shop in our classroom within the next few weeks and will be brainstorming ideas of what to "open" next! Have a great weekend with your children! Ms. Murray Hello Families! I hope you had a great weekend with your children. What a week we had in Pre-K! Fun playing outside in the snow by the tennis courts, and fun inside maintaining friendships and playing together. We were reading The Peace Book by Todd Parr, and while we were reading it, we stumbled upon the page that said, "Peace is helping your neighbor" (picture is underneath). Both classes had a similar discussion after I asked the question: Why do you think the woman is in the house and isn't able to paint her own house? Both classes came up with the idea that she could be in a wheelchair and/or can't walk somehow. It was a great discussion about differences which prompted me to email Todd Parr to ask. To my surprise, he answered! He said that he initially didn't have a real reason besides someone helping someone else, but now if anyone asks, he will say she is in a wheelchair. Have a great night, Ms. Murray |
