Rumney Preschool
Ms. Murray's Classes
Hi Pre-K Families! There will be no school until January 2nd, 2019. We made it to vacation! The children had a very excited and jam packed week of winter activities. We finished up our Artist in Residency with Marv Klassen-Landis. They looked forward to seeing him every day and loved hearing all of his stories! The students participated in story-telling, and helping Marv create stories. The students even made their own stories as a gift to Marv! Each child added parts to the stories. The MW group wrote a story about all of them sleeping over at Rumney! The TTh class wrote a story about a cow. Both stories are posted at the end of the blog. The TTh class had a very special visitor -- DJ Barry, Evelyn's dad! DJ and Evelyn gave each child a World Cow t-shirt, which is the t-shirt company that DJ owns. We all wore our cow shirts and had a very fun day. Thank you DJ and Evelyn! This was our last week of the pizzeria. When the children come back, we will start something new in the dramatic play. On Wednesday and Thursday, students enjoyed wearing their PJs to school and got to watch a sweet video. We watched The Snowy Day, the movie that is based on the book by Ezra Jack Keats. They cuddled up with their blankets and rest mats while watching the movie. Ask Your Child: Tell me about story telling with Marv. What stories did he tell you? Extra question: Did you watch the movie The Snowy Day? Tell me about Peter and his Nana's Mac and cheese. Please enjoy this time off with your families, see you in the new year! Ms. Murray MW Story: The Sleepover: These preschool children are getting ready to have a sleepover at school. They will read books and play basketball in the gym. They are going to eat cookies, tomatoes, cucumbers, orange and spaghetti. Ms. Honi, Ms. Murray and Julie are going to spend the night too. The teachers have to do work like put music on. The children will play hide and seek in the classroom. They will hide in the pizzeria and in the cozy corner. They will be nice to each other. The children will go to bed late... in 100 minutes! Before bed the children will wash their faces and brush their teeth. They will have a hard time falling asleep, so the teachers will play music and read more books. By 6:00 all the children will be asleep. Goodnight children! By: Serena, Kristopher, Mayla, Isabelle, Abi, Rosie, Elka, Kaitlyn TTh Story: Once upon a time there was a cow eating hay. The cow's name was Cowey. The cow was very thirsty so he went to the lemonade store. Cowey spilled his lemonaid and felt sad. Next Cowey went to the grape store for grape juice. Cowey met his friends named Spider and Fish. Mr. Cowey Blank joined the friends and together they went to the pizzeria for pizza and goldfish. Hello Families! Announcements:
We have LOVED participating in the story telling Artist-in-Residency with Marv Klassen-Landis. He came to each class twice this week, and told fun and engaging stories. He had the kids on the edge of their seats wondering what will happen next. Marv will be joining us next week as well as he wraps up the residency. On Monday, we had a great time exploring the woods during this snowy season. On Tuesday and Thursday, we enjoyed time in the gym jumping, running, and rolling on mats. On Tuesday, we watched a wonderful clip from Sesame Street about a character named Julia who has Autism. The students then had a conversation with an outside consultant from Seeds of Change in Montpelier to learn more about Autism. Here is the link to the Julia video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dKCdV20zLMs We are in the home stretch to winter vacation, and looking forward to this last week together before 2019! Have a great weekend, Ms. Murray Hello Families! Announcements:
Can you believe we are already in December? We have had so much fun out on our playground sledding, making snow castles, and running through the deep snow. On Tuesday, the students enjoyed a visit from Heather from the Kellogg-Hubbard Library. She read two mindful books called: Moody Cow Meditates by Kerry MacLean and Yoga Bunny by Brian Russo. Both books talked more about feelings and how to control them using different techniques. That tied in with our new Calm Down Corner in our classroom. There are many tools in that area that can help students, such as: calm down bottles, squeeze toys, and cards to suggest what to do (breathe, do yoga, etc). The students have been enjoying their time in the pizzeria. They have been taking turns, using their writing skills, and making pizzas with SO many toppings! Next week, we have an Artist in Residency coming to Rumney! Each year, our amazing art Teacher, Jen Campbell, finds an artist to come to Rumney to work with all the grade levels. Marv Klassen-Landis, a grandfather of Rumney students, will be coming to Rumney to do some storytelling! We are very excited to have him! Ask Your Child: Tell me about the Calm Down Corner. What is over there? How do you use it? Have a warm and happy weekend, Ms. Murray |
