Ms. Murray's Classes
Hi Families! Announcements:
We had a great week celebrating friendship and love! One thing we did was go around the circle and share things that we like about each person. Some snippets were: “I like that they play with me” and “I like that when I ask for space, they give me space.” — how sweet! They all enjoyed giving out their valentines to their friends. We did many heart and valentine’s day activities this week, one being the valentine yoga pose. They sat with legs criss-cross and made a heart with their hands as they closed their eyes and took some deep breaths. Ask them to show you how to do it! On Monday and Tuesday, we did some outdoor exploration through the snow towards the soccer field (near the garden). The snow was so deep, it went above their knees! We played a game called “What Time is it Mr. Fox” where someone stands at end of the field and everyone else stands at the other, similar to Red Light, Green Light. The kids at the other end yell “What time is it Mr. Fox?” and the child who is Mr. Fox will say a time like 3 o’clock, and the kids take 3 steps towards the fox. When they are getting pretty close and ask again, the fox yells “dinner time!!!” and chases them. They love it so much! It was hard to chase in the snow, but they really enjoyed themselves. Both classes enjoyed playing with water and ice with watercolor paint. They mixed colors with little droppers and scooped/poured to their hearts content! On Monday, they helped dye rice in bags and spread it all out to dry so we could play with it later that day and throughout the week. It was a huge hit. There were heart gems mixed in with the rice. On Thursday, they liked getting some animal toys and burying them in the rice and having me try to guess what animal it was. Due to the icy conditions outside on Thursday, we went to the gym! They were all very excited and kept saying how much they love the gym. We took out balls and some mats. They loved practicing kicking and throwing the balls and chasing each other. On Thursday, we played with the castle and dragon. We limited the area to only 2 kids at a time and made sure that everyone got a turn to play there if they wanted to. That was something that was really successful, and the kids were all excited for their turn, but respectful of others while they had a turn. Ask Your Child: Did you play with rice this week? Was the rice a different color (or colors)? Enjoy your weekend, Deanna

Hi Families! Announcements:
How can every day be so much fun?! While playing inside and outside, we laughed so much all week. On Monday and Wednesday, we played with boxes. What else would I do with all of my moving boxes? They spent their day making tunnels and small caves as they crawled through as fast as they could. On Tuesday, the snow was perfect for building. They spent the entire time outside building snow people and snow families. They dug in the dirt that was visible to find small rocks and twigs to dress up their snow people. Since it was so warm, they decided to take their hats off and put them on their snow people! On Wednesday, the snow started to get pretty crunchy, so we trekked all the way to the rock garden and found a snow tunnel some older kids had made — what a surprise that was. One friend convinced me to go through the tunnel, and I was not quite sure I was going to make it out! We learned more about the Lunar New Year this week. We read Red is a Dragon by Roseanne Thong. It is a great book about colors! The MT class was very interested in puppet making this week. They made some dragon puppets after learning more about Lunar New Year, then starting making other kinds of puppets. On Tuesday, I printed out pictures of their faces and some made tiny puppet versions of themselves! On Thursday, we enjoyed making a rhyming book. The sentences were: - Bug on a rug - Duck on a truck - Cat on a mat - Dog on a log They had to find the pictures to match and glue bug, duck, cat, and dog ON the other things, which is good positional word practice as well. Ask your kiddo to “read” you their book! We will make this book next week with the MT class. What a snowy week! I hope your children all had fun out in the snow yesterday and today. In the dramatic play this week, some mops and brooms were added. They were all extremely excited to clean everything in the classroom! On Wednesday, they enjoyed finding the pretend food and drinks and were “spilling” them and cleaning them up — it was such a fun use of their imagination. In the MT class, we have been talking about changing the dramatic play to something different. They had many ideas! It is looking like it will soon become a winter wonderland. Next week, both classes will be working to create different decorations for that area. On Wednesday, we read a book called The Runaway Rice Cake by Ying Chang Compestine. It is similar to the gingerbread man story, but shows how important acts of kindness are in a community. It is the beginning of Lunar New Year, so we will learn more about it this coming week. Both classes enjoyed climbing on the Pikler Triangle this week. It’s wonderful to see how confident they are getting while climbing it! They are showing me how much they care about one another while waiting their turns and making sure a friend is all the way onto the other side before starting to climb.
