Hello Pre-K Families! Announcements:
Another great week here in Pre-K. First off, thank you to Elka, who had the amazing idea to change the dramatic play into an under the sea theme. The ocean has been full of mermaids, fish, sharks, jellyfish, and swimmers. Throughout the week, the kids enjoyed the ocean space in the dramatic play and did many fun ocean related activities. Fish, sharks, puffer fish, and beluga whales were made to decorate the classroom. Pre-K scuba divers were made to decorate our bulletin board out in the hallway. Be sure to check it out. The MW class painted the blue and green part of the bulletin board, they were very proud of their painting! On Wednesday, I read The Heart of a Whale by Anna Pignataro, and they all practiced making whale sounds after listening to some. They enjoyed the whale sounds during lunch time as well. On Thursday, I read Charlotte's Bones by Erin Rounds. Before reading it, I let them know that this was a little sad. The story was about the beluga whale bones that were found in Vermont in the late 1800s in Charlotte, VT. They enjoyed learning about people who found bones, right here in Vermont. Throughout the week, proper hand washing has been practiced over and over again. We have practiced singing a hand washing song that helps them remember to wash their hands for long enough. It goes to the tune of Frere Jacques: Tops and bottoms, tops and bottoms In between, in between All around your hands, all around your hands Now they're clean, now they're clean This song could be used at home as well! Many reminders have also been made to not put their fingers in the their mouth, and to try to avoid touching their faces -- this can be really challenging for them, but they have all been working very hard not to. Ask Your Child: Did you read a book about a whale this week? What was it about? What sounds do whales make? Thanks for all your continued support. Have a safe weekend! Ms. Murray

Hello Pre-K Families! Announcements:
It was a quick week, so this will be a quick update. We played outside and had a blast. The snow is melting, which is making us antsy for spring! Soon we will be spending our days in our muddy buddy suits instead of snow pants. On Wednesday and Thursday, both classes enjoyed the story Elmer by David McKee. The story is about a patchwork elephant that just wants to fit in. There were many predictions about what would happen next, and how Elmer would feel. Below is a picture of Elmer. We spent our days making colorful pattern pictures, where the kids picked a card and had to make a pattern to match. You can see those in the photos at the end of the blog. Over the next week or so, we will be doing more Elmer activities that relate to using different colors, and branch into learning about Henri Matisse. Each class also met Stu. Stu is a spray bottle that I put a sock over and added eyes and a mouth. His "nose" is the nozzle of the spray bottle. They met Stu, and learned that he has the flu and doesn't know what to do! Stu did not know how to cover his mouth, and he "sneezed" (with water) in their faces, and they thought it was very yucky. They taught Stu how to cover his mouth so he won't get others sick. It was great practice for them. Preschool Screening Day will be held on Wednesday, April 15th, all day long. There will be no Wednesday class on that day. If you know any children that will be 3 by September 1st, please let me know. If you have a child in your family that will be 3 by September 1st, please call Mary at the office to schedule your time for screening. Ask Your Child: How do you sneeze so it doesn't get on others? Can you show me? Thanks and have a great weekend! Ms. Murray |
