Rumney Preschool
Ms. Murray's Classes
Hi Pre-K Families, Announcements:
What a week it was. We were so busy all week. We sadly bid adieu to Kaitlyn Chaffee as she is about to have her baby. We were so lucky to have her, even though it was a short period of time. She lives in Middlesex, so you might see her around! Caitlin Morgan will be taking over starting Monday! Many of you know Ms. Caitlin, but if you don’t, she has worked at Rumney for quite some time in various positions and I’m really excited to have her in the class! If you could please talk to your children and let them know that Ms. Caitlin (which might be tricky since we just had Kaitlyn) will be joining us. I understand the importance of continuity of staff members with young children, and I truly appreciate you and your children’s flexibility this year. With masks and changing staff members, this certainly is not a typical school year. I am happy to be the consistent face that your kiddos see when they come to school. This week was full of adventure. On Monday & Tuesday we listened to the beginning of Mountain Goat Mountain, which instructed us to draw a friendly and helpful creature we might see while exploring the mountain. I drew the head, and then each child took turns adding something to the creature. Arms, legs, eyes, teeth, wings, claws, and more were added! Then on Wednesday & Thursday, we got ready for our adventure. They dressed up in big clothes and made paper hats. When we begun, it led us through many tasks which included using our imaginations to be in a tent, go swimming to find a cave, get across lava, and of course, see the creature we created. They had SO much fun! Here are some questions you can ask about it: Did you wear a costume/What costume did you wear? How did Mountain Goat Mountain start? What places did you pretend to go to? Did you have to help each other? How did you help each other? Did you see the creature you made? We also had some outside adventures as well! Both classes enjoyed the rock garden this week, and they were in completely different temperatures! The MW class had a nice sunny day at the rock garden, where they pealed bark off of a dead tree and picked up heavy rocks. The TTh class had a rainy day and ended up on the tennis courts only to find so many worms. I am excited for all the fun we will have for the remainder of the school year! Deanna

Hi Preschool Families! Announcement:
It’s strange to say this since it is snowing today, but we had a beautiful week inside and outside the classroom! In the beginning of the week in both classes, we spent our morning outside time on the tennis courts. We borrowed some extra toys from Mr. Mike like frisbee pizzas and soft rings. Many of the kiddos enjoyed using chalk to draw pictures of their families, making hearts and rainbows, or write their names. We read Mr. Gumpy’s Outing by John Burningham in both classes. This story is about a man named Mr. Gumpy who has a lot of animals and two children on a boat. They end up rocking the boat and everyone falls in! We acted it out on Tuesday on the tennis courts per request by the kids! On Monday and Tuesday, the kids arrived to two different pendulums. One had cups with paint and another had a wiffle ball at the end of it with small blocks to build and knock over. They all had so much fun pouring the paint in the cups and building tall towers to knock over. They worked together to build towers and took turns using the pendulums. On Wednesday they got dinosaurs stuck out of ice by using tools like droppers and funnels to pour warm water on them. It was really exciting when they broke the dinosaurs free! On Thursday, all the kids helped out doing laundry. It is a really important job! They enjoyed loading up the washing machine with dirty clothes and hitting the buttons to turn on the machine. I hope you all have a lovely school vacation with your children! Deanna Hi Folks! Announcements:
I apologize for the late blog post, but we had a fun week! The sun was shining so we spent a lot of time on the tennis courts, the soccer field, the playground, and the woods. We have a bin of outdoor items (balls, ribbon dancers, frisbees, etc) from Mr. Mike. It's finally warm and dry enough for us to take all of that outside. In both classes this week, we had a lot of sensory fun. On Tuesday and Wednesday, they sorted fruit loops by color. It took a lot of communication and a ton of time! After they sorted them all, they put each color in a bag. They then used small hammers, shells, and rocks to smash the cereal inside the bags. Later in the day, they used the cereal powder to make some glue pictures with their names. On Wednesday, we found a lovely stream in the woods where we did some exploration. We found mossy rocks and compared how slippery some rocks were to others. We also practiced positional words by going over and under branches. On Tuesday, we went to the tennis courts and used chalk to draw fun pictures and write our names. Last week and this week, both classes drew and colored their houses and described them to me. We discussed details such as: house color, roof shape, how many windows, where you park your cars, etc. They started by drawing their homes with pencil, and then added more detail with crayons. After they were finished I asked each of them this question: How do you get home from Rumney? I added their directions, and now those pictures are on the bulletin board for other classes to read and enjoy. Have a fun sunny weekend! Deanna |
