Ms. Murray's Classes
Hello Pre-K Families! Announcements:
We had another fantastic week in pre-k. The weather is getting warmer, and we are enjoying tons of time outside. There is ice outside that is melting, and the kids enjoyed stepping on the ice to watch the water move underneath, and breaking up the ice. We have been using connecting builders on the light table to make different structures. Kids have worked together to use all the pieces or split up the pieces to work alone to build their own thing. Heather from the Kellogg-Hubbard Library came on Monday and Tuesday of this week and read books about yoga and mindfulness. Everyone practiced their breathing. An example was to pretend to cool down a hot bowl of soup. You can practice this at home! Be sure to check out our spring bulletin board in the hallway with beautifully painted flowers. Ask Your Child: Where did you play outside this week? Did you stay on the playground or did you go exploring? Have a nice, warm weekend! Ms. Murray

Good evening Families, Announcements:
We had a great week! The weather was great and we loved our time outside. On Monday, we got to enjoy the Vermont Symphony Orchestra in the gym with the rest of the school. That was a fun experience, everyone enjoyed watching them play music. We enjoyed a lot of sensory play this week. On Monday and Tuesday morning, there was bubble wrap taped to the floor. The kids had so much fun taking off their shoes and jumping on the bubble wrap. They experienced popping the bubbles with different parts of their body, like their elbows and fingers. We also used blue sensory beads for a fun experience. They scooped and dumped the beads, and made tons of noise! On Thursday, we enjoyed a Cosmic Yoga video about The Very Hungry Caterpillar. On occasion, we will be trying these yoga videos to build more core strength and flexibility. Ask Your Child: Did you play with blue beads this week? Did the beads have holes in them? Did they make noise in the bucket? Have a great weekend with your kiddos, Ms. Murray Happy Friday Families, Announcements:
What a fun week we had! We built upon our friendships, enjoyed the beautiful weather, and did tons of dancing. This is the part of the year where we start to see friendships start to truly blossom. It is lovely to watch them dive deeper into their friendships and remember things that their friends do or do not like (example: "I am eating a cheese stick but I know that they don't like cheese sticks). They make strong connections every day. A great activity we did this week was stringing beads. While it seems like an easy task to do, the fine motor skills involved in stringing beads is quite challenging. They learned the words "cube" and "cylinder" while stringing the beads, and could pick them out such as: the purple cube or the green cylinder. After they completed stringing the beads, they counted them all using one-to-one correspondence. On Wednesday, we attended the tail end of the All School Meeting to dance to Zumba music to say a final farewell to Ms. Sheldon. We really enjoyed the warm weather this week. On Thursday, the snow was sticky and the weather was beautiful! The kids spent over an hour rolling snow balls bigger than them! Ask Your Child: Did Ms. Murray read a book about a red rock in the middle of the deep blue sea? What was on the rock? (The book has a green tree, a brown nut, a purple parrot, an orange butterfly, a black dot (on the orange butterfly), the yellow sun, a white cloud, a gray cloud, colorful fish, and a rainbow). After the pictures is a message from Ms. Honi about an event happening during Friday CC time. Have a great weekend with your kids! Ms. Murray We are pleased to announce an exciting opportunity for families with children 2-5 years old. Presented by Rachel O’Donald, “Dance to Learn” class will take place in the Rumney PreK on Fridays, March 22 and 29th from 9:45-10:30 with the PreK Community Connections students.
This class focuses on fun and appropriate movements for building your child's body and brain. Meaningful social/emotional connections are made as you and child move and improvise together and with others. Explore dance concepts using multi-sensory props and instruments as we sing nursery rhymes and move to a wide variety of music. Learn how to support and encourage your child's love of literature and movement, preparing them for preschool settings while moving through the early developmental patterns that wire the central nervous system and brain. This program is free and open to the public. Please be respectful by arriving on time so as not to disrupt the class. Please email Honi Bean Barrett at [email protected] to register. Welcome back to school! I hope you all had a nice time with your children over February vacation. Preschool Screening Day: We will not have a regular Pre-K day on Tuesday, April 9th due to Preschool Screening Day for incoming students. *If you know any families who have a child who will be 3 by September 1st, 2019, please have them email me at [email protected] or call me at school. Thank you!* We had a short week, we focused on practicing getting back to school, remembering our routines, and having some fun. Even though it was windy, we had a great time outside! Everyone loved "driving" in our new school bus and playing pretend school. Students ran their own morning meeting and had snack time in our pretend school. How fun! Please be sure to send your child in every day with: all of their snow gear, a water bottle, and any utensils they might need for snack/lunch. Thank you! Have a wonderful weekend, Ms. Murray |
