Hi Families! Announcements:
Pajama Day Info: What a fun day! Your child can come to school wearing their pajamas and can bring one stuffed animal (that can fit inside their backpack), and a blanket. We will watch The Snowy Day movie and make pancakes! If you have any questions about this, please email me! If you would like to donate syrup and pancake mix, that is just an added bonus. Another great week in the books. Can you believe we are in the home stretch to winter vacation? It’s great to watch them play and learn how to be members of their classroom community. At morning meeting this week, we played a game called “I have, who has” where each kiddo had a card with two pictures on it. I used winter pictures, but this game will pop up again throughout the year with different themes or seasons. Below is an example of one of the cards. (more info to follow after the picture) Each child got a card. I started and said “I have penguin, who has mittens?” Whoever has the mittens would say “I have mittens, who has the polar bear?” Crystal and I helped the kids learn how to play and when we did it a second time after mixing up the cards, they got the hang of it. On Tuesday, the kids were very interested in making signs after seeing a closed sign in the dramatic play area. They enjoyed writing words or drawing pictures on signs and then hanging them up with tape so everyone really knew that the dramatic play area was closed. In the morning, things can get a little chaotic with every area of the classroom open, so that’s why some areas are closed at times. We have an indoor climber! It is called a Pikler Triangle. So far in the classroom, we have called it “the climber”. What is a Pikler Triangle? It is an indoor climbing toy created by a famous pediatrician and child expert, Emily Pikler. She published many papers on child development, so she really knew her stuff! It’s safe to say that the kids LOVED playing on this. With any new addition to the classroom, it’s always important for myself or Crystal to be right there to help them navigate the new objects. They were extremely patient with one another and had a great tome flexing their climbing skills. Having this in the classroom creates plenty of opportunities for gross motor development! Here are some great benefits of the climber:
On Wednesday, I put out some glue in little containers and paint brushes with a large piece of paper. They had to “paint” the glue on the paper to then stick little shapes on it. Ali had a great idea to add color to the paint (Thanks, Ali!). I was surprised and wondered why I have never thought of doing that! They loved mixing colors and then painting it on the paper. They were not even interested in putting the shapes on after, they just loved mixing the colors! I look forward to the next two weeks with your kiddos. Even though this time of year can be a little bit busy and hectic, they always have fun :) Ask Your Child:
Have a great weekend, Deanna
