Ms. Murray's Classes
Hi Families, What a great week back from vacation! This week was the start of our dinosaur unit, and I think the grown ups learned from the kids. We have quite a few resident experts on dinosaurs between the two classes. This week, we learned about what a fossil is, what paleontologists do, and had discussions about why dinosaurs are no longer alive. Our dramatic play has turned into a mix of a paleontology dig site and a prehistoric dinosaur lair. They are having fun being dinosaurs stomping around and hiding in their cave! When they are paleontologists, they wear the proper gear (vest and hardhat), dig for fossils, then measure them. On Wednesday and Thursday, we went out to the sidewalk and each child got a mini dinosaur that was stuck in ice! They had to use spray bottles and squirt bottles to get them out. We talked about why warm water would help the ice melt. They had a ton of fun! Ask Your Child: Did you help trapped dinosaurs get out of the ice? How did you do it? What tools did you use? Outside this week was fantastic!!! We explored the woods and the water garden in our muddy buddy suits. I have purchased a class set of muddy buddy suits, so you do not have to send in rain pants if you don't want to/have them. The kids (and grown ups!) had a blast jumping into deep puddles! On Tuesday, we explored the vernal pool and saw frogs and frog eggs. Enjoy this rainy weekend, Ms. Murray

Hi Families, I apologize about the delay in my blog post. Announcements:
The weather is getting warmer and warmer each day! Hopefully after April vacation, we won't need snow pants and gear (wishful thinking, I know!). We had a great week building with builders, playing with dirt inside our classroom, and being outside in the sunshine. We have builders that we use on the light table to clip together, and they have made some great creations, such as motorcycles, boats, guitars, and more! Legos have been extremely popular these last few weeks. We have been getting into the habit of building something awesome and "saving" it for later. It's been nice to be able to come back to something they've previously built. In the beginning of the week, the kids used dot stickers to cover different designs I drew on paper, including letters and squiggles. On Thursday after lunch, we got to enjoy the student production of Mary Poppins. They couldn't wait for it all day and had a great time watching the show. Ask Your Child: Did you use the builders on the light table or legos this week? What did you build with them? Have a nice weekend! Ms. Murray |
