Ms. Murray's Classes
Hi Folks! Announcements:
This will be a quick update. Both classes had a great time making pancakes for pajama day! We spent the morning making them and ate them during snack time. They've been flexing their cooking skills these last two weeks -- I am really impressed! On both days, we celebrated winter and our last day of school before vacation by watching The Snowy Day movie adaptation of the book by Ezra Jack Keats. They were all noticing "connections" between the book and the movie. Some pointed out things that were only in the movie, and not in the book. I hope you all have a lovely and restful time at home with your families. They are an absolute joy to be around, and I am lucky to have them all in my class! Cheers! Deanna

Hi Pre-K Families! Announcements:
Whew, what a fun and jam-packed week! As we get closer to our winter vacation, children tend to have a lot more energy so we have been very active. On Monday, we cut paper snowflakes and decorated the classroom windows. They enjoyed seeing each other's snowflakes and complimenting one another. There was some interest in hat making, so many of them picked their colors and we made construction paper hats. On Tuesday, the kids noticed the water at the rock garden had frozen. They found large rocks and threw them at the ice to break it. It was great to see them come up with different ways on how to break the ice. On Tuesday & Wednesday, we made latkes! We read the book Lots of Latkes by Sandy Lanton. Cooking together was so much fun. They all took turns flipping the latkes and we enjoyed them during our snack time on Tuesday and lunch time on Wednesday, pairing them with sour cream and apple sauce. On Thursday, they had a great time burying each other (and me!) in the snow. They also enjoyed rolling and sliding down the hill. We read The Snowy Day by Ezra Jack Keats and made our own Peter snowsuit pictures. We will make these on Monday with the MW class. Have a great weekend with your kids, Deanna Hi Folks, Announcements:
On Tuesday and Wednesday, we played a game that everyone really enjoyed! I taped pictures around the room of animals, items, etc. We talked about the letters B, F, L, and T and what sounds those letters make. Each child had a white board and marker. We walked around as a group and found the different pictures. Then, they told me what the picture was (for example: bicycle) and practice the beginning sound of that word (buh-buh-bicyle). After that, they wrote the letter on their white boards. It was a mix of a scavenger hunt to find the pictures, and letter and letter sound practice. This is a game you could play at home, too! On Wednesday, we played in our pretend kitchen quite a bit. Many kids spent some time using our pretend rotary phone to call their family members. It’s great to hear them say, “I love you, I’ll see you once school is done!” It was also quite snowy on our playground that day, and they all tested how fast the slides were. On Thursday, we cut paper snowflakes. It’s a intricate activity that helps strengthen their hands and scissor skills. We decorated the classroom with some of them. We will do this next week with the Monday/Wednesday class. Both classes enjoyed sliding down the sledding hill. There’s not quite enough snow on the hill for sleds, but they have been rolling and tumbling down it with their friends. Next week we will be learning about Hanukkah. We read the book “Lots of Latkes” and will read it again next week! Happy Hanukkah to those who celebrate. Have a great weekend, Deanna Hi Pre-K Families! Announcements:
Another fun week in the books. Preschool in December is wonderful! We have spent a lot of time talking about the snow. Why is there snow in the woods but none on the playground on a sunny day? Can we slide on snow or just ice? These questions and many more have come up and they all have interesting tidbits to add. The play kitchen is back! It's so wonderful to be able to use this again. I have eaten all of the food that your children have prepared for me. Blueberry yogurt on pizza? Sure! I was also "a kid" and they were my grown ups. I got paper bag lunches, took the bus to school, and went to a sleepover. Their imaginations are endless, they are so creative. On Monday during snack time, we went in a circle and shared one thing we liked about each person. They felt so great about themselves after! The compliments were along the lines of: I like them because they are kind to everyone. One thing I like about them is that they are silly. We will try this next week in the TTh class. In the beginning of the week, we spent a lot of time outside at the rock garden. The water flowing made for fun exploration. There was a lot of splashing. Many kids were picking up different sized rocks and standing in different areas (on the bridge, on a big rock, etc) to see how big the splash would be. On Tuesday, we collectively wrote a story during lunch time. They named the story Gigantic City of Unicorns and Giants. A picture of it is below: There are two slideshows below. The first one has photos from the Monday and Tuesday before our break. The second one has photos from this week. I hope you and your children have a great weekend together, Deanna |
