Rumney Preschool
Ms. Murray's Classes
Hello Pre-K Families! Welcome to Rumney school -- I am so happy you decided to share your wonderful children with me. I will be sending out a blog post each week that will give you important information and give an overview to what your child did this week at school. At the end of each blog post there will be two things: One will be “Ask Your Child” which is a prompting question to ask your child about the school week without having to ask the age old question of, “What did you do at school today?”. The second will be a slideshow with TONS of pictures! Announcements:
What a great first week we had! It was absolutely lovely to meet new families and get to connect with familiar faces. Thank you to all of you for making this first week so great! On our first few days together as a class, we spend a lot of time getting to know one another by asking some prompting questions such as: “What is your favorite color? What kind of food do you like to eat? What is your favorite animal?” These questions are great introductions to the children and help them get more comfortable to be in the class — kids love to talk about themselves! We have spent a great deal of time outside this week on our playground. They have worked together to push one another on the swings or chased each other all over pretending to be dinosaurs! We have talked about safety on our playground, specifically around sticks. I value stick play and know how important it is, but also want to make sure they are safe. A big rule that I have about sticks is this: You can use a stick while walking, but if you are going to run or climb (on rocks, the climbing structure, etc), then you need to put the stick down. I demonstrated that by holding a stick and trying to climb on a rock with a stick in my hand. Inside the classroom, they have been exploring all the different places. We have a dramatic play area, a block area, a classroom library area, the art easels, a big rug, and the tables for eating and making art/doing fun projects. They enjoyed play doh quite a bit this week! They also all enjoyed playing with the kitchen in the dramatic play area to make many, many tasty meals. Ask Your Child: Did Ms. Murray read a book about a dog named George this week? When he was supposed to bark, what sounds did he make? [The book is called Bark, George] Please enjoy the photos below. This was quite the update! I hope you all have a fantastic long weekend with your kiddos. See you soon! Deanna
