Ms. Murray's Classes
Hi Folks, Thank you for meeting with me today for conferences to celebrate your children’s growth! Announcements:
What a week! In Vermont, we never know what weather we will have, but the kids were ready for anything. In the beginning of the week we were in puddles at the rock garden and the woods, and by the end we were bundled back up in our gear. On Monday, we had an absolute blast playing with colored spaghetti. I added tools for scooping and twirling, and scissors for cutting. They enjoyed “making dinner” and serving it up. On Tuesday (and Thursday by Fergus’ request - Thanks Fergus!) we played with oobleck. It was great to watch them form the oobleck into balls and then watch it “melt” through their fingers. In the coming weeks, I will do spaghetti with the TTh class and oobleck with the MW class. In both classes, we used the Handwriting without Tears wooden pieces to make letters (pictured below). We did a song from the program called “Tap, Tap, Tap” and then practiced making some letters. The wooden pieces are called: Big line, little line, big curve, and little curve. They all had fun making letters they knew! This week, both classes flexed their STEM skills by doing a bridge building challenge. The kiddos had a variety of objects to use to make the bridge for the animals to get across. They used lego, cups, popsicle sticks, small blocks, and long wooden boards. Ms. Aly, our lovely Librarian, stopped down with a book called Crossings: Extraordinary Structures for Extraordinary Animals by Katy S. Duffield. Wow! What a phenomenal book that is. It showed different animals all over the world, and the citizen scientists who helped build structures for the animals to safely pass. Have a great weekend with your kids! Deanna

Hi Pre-K Families! Announcements:
This week was a blast! The snow is slowly melting away, and we are enjoying the amount of water that is melting. Both classes spent a ton of time this week at the rock garden splashing around and investigating. On Tuesday, they found a stream of water from the melting snow, and put pine cones in as boats to watch them float down. On Wednesday, they found a worm and investigated where it was living. They enjoyed watching it wriggle around. The cafe is going well. They are serving any grown ups that stop in. April from the kitchen stopped in on Tuesday! Many of them are taking their food to go and then setting up a picnic in another part of the classroom. On Wednesday, we played with flour with cars and trucks. They enjoyed scooping and dumping it with the construction trucks we have. It was really fun to see them “pat” all the flour off of their clothes. They also enjoyed washing all the paint cups at the water table. On Thursday, we made a fun rain picture. I took a picture of each of them holding my umbrella. We put painters tape over the pictures and they used droppers to drop watercolor paint. Once it was dry, we took the tape off! It was really exciting. We also ate lunch outside on Thursday. After that, they worked together to carry the tables in, which took a lot of meaningful communication. Have a wonderful weekend! Deanna Hi Families! Announcements:
We had a really fun week. For our nursery rhyme, we did the Itsy Bitsy Spider. Many kids knew it, but enjoyed singing it and listening to the song. On Monday and Tuesday, there were many bins filled with water and gutters attached. We made a ton of pipe cleaner spiders and washed the spider out down the gutters over and over again! Kaitlyn played a game we called Feed the Puppy. She had bone pictures that had dots on them and the kids had to find the bone with matching number to feed the puppy. Then they switched it to having to find the dots. Both classes really enjoyed it! Both classes also enjoyed playing the Count Your Chickens board game. Outside this week was full of being bundled up due to the cold, and then splashing in puddles. On Monday, they were a ton of dinosaurs on the play ground! On Tuesday, a team of astronauts went to space and even saw a grizzly bear at the space station. On Wednesday, they pretending to make fires to warm up and collected pine cones and lined them up in a very long line. On Thursday, we used chalk to draw and make a fun hopping obstacle course in front of the school. The cafe opened up this week! What fun they had. They all took turns being either workers or customers. Customers purchased donuts, cinnamon buns, cookies, fruit, and drinks. The workers told them how much it cost and asked if they wanted it for here or to go. On Thursday, they "closed" the dining room for a little while and did to-go only. One friend mentioned they couldn't do indoor dining because of the virus. Real life truly comes out in play. We made signs and hung them in the hallway for any school grown ups to stop in to buy a treat. Ms. Honi stopped in on Thursday -- it was so exciting! The cafe will stay for a few weeks until we change it to something new. Have a great weekend with your kiddos! Deanna Happy Pretend Spring! Announcements:
This week was full of indoor and outdoor adventure. We spent a ton of time outside in the puddles and climbing trees on Wednesday and Thursday. They took some great risks while climbing the trees! Last week, we read the story called In a Jar by Deborah Marcero and painted jars as an activity. It was a lovely story about two friends collecting memories in jars, even when one moved away. Your child brought home their memory jar this week. If there are any special events (birthdays, special days, etc), please encourage your child to bring their jar! They can "scoop" up the memory of their special day to always remember it. This week, both classes enjoyed the nursery rhyme Hey Diddle Diddle. They cut out pictures of the characters from the rhyme and glued them on in order of the story. We will be doing different nursery rhymes here and there over the next couple weeks and doing an activity to go with each. Both classes enjoyed the story Jabari Tries by Gaia Cornwall. It is the follow up book from Jabari Jumps. Both books are fantastic! In Jabari Tries, Jabari and his sister, Nika, are trying to make an airplane fly all the way across the yard. After finishing the book, we talked about things that are hard and remembered one of our says: We do hard things here. Have a great sunny afternoon with your awesome kids! Deanna |
