Ms. Murray's Classes
Hi Folks! I apologize for the late blog post. Announcements:
Thank you for the great turn out at Open House! Wow, the kids had a ton of fun this week. On Tuesday, we attended the first All School Meeting of the year. We sat with the whole school and listened to Mr. Provost lead. We also got to dance to drumming, done by the Kindergarten teacher, Matt. Our ECO program is ramping up! We enjoyed time out in the woods on both Wednesday and Thursday. On Thursday, we decorated pieces of cloth with markers, which are used as boundaries. The boundaries represent how far the kids can travel in the woods. This helps them take a sense of pride in their ECO spot. The kids are also starting to practice sitting in their "sit spots". Each child chooses their own spot in the woods, away from others, where they can sit quietly and listen to the noises of the forest. This happens at the end of each ECO session, for about 3 minutes. After, we gather together and share what we heard. Most of them say that's their favorite part! A brochure giving more information about ECO will be sent home next week. The kids are practicing and learning a new song called "Count the Magic Number". We sing this when the kids line up to count how many kids are here that day. That is our magic number. On Wednesday and Thursday in the sensory table, there was corn! We focused heavily that this was not corn for eating, since I got it at a feed store. They scooped and dumped the corn in the sensory table. At another table, they were using corn to glue on their names. This is a great fine motor activity to squeeze the glue and use their fingers to pinch each piece of corn. Thanks for another great week! Ms. Murray

Hi Families! Announcements:
We had so much fun as we began to fall into fall. On Monday and Tuesday, the kids used small pumpkins to make stamping pictures. They used the seeds from the inside to decorate their pictures. On Wednesday and Thursday, we began our ECO program! I read Leaf Man by Lois Ehlert while we sat outside. We then collected leaves, sticks, and other items to make our own leaf people when we went back inside later. While learning about our ECO class, the students were taught the three cares: Take care of ourselves, take care of others, take care of the earth. They were also taught a fun song called My Roots Go Down. The TTh class enjoyed it so much, we shared it with some families at the 1:45 dismissal time! They all wanted to be able to sing it with you at home, so I let them know I would provide the lyrics (which are very simple and paired with a beat): My roots go down down into the ground My roots go down down into the ground My roots go down down into the ground My roots go down Playing outside, whether it was on the playground or in the woods, was so much fun all week. The weather is starting to get a tad chilly, and we go out early, so please make sure your child comes to school with an extra layer to put on outside. Ask Your Child: Did you collect objects outside to glue on paper? What did you collect? What did you make? Have a great weekend, hope to see you at Open House! Ms. Murray Hello Pre-K Families! Announcements & Important Dates:
What a lovely week we had! We watched the students make connections, build upon friendships, and continue to be safe in our classroom. This was our first week of going to specials!! On Monday and Tuesday, both classes enjoyed going to Music with Ms. Lanphier and Library with Ms. Aly. In Music class, they learned the rules of the Music room, played a fun name game, and did a freeze dance. In Library, Ms. Aly read them a book called The Night Before Preschool by Natasha Wing. They also got to take a book home to borrow. They were very excited about that. You can keep your library books at home for a full week (sending them back in on your next library day). On Monday and Tuesday, we did some painting in a different type of way. The kids got a piece of aluminum foil stapled onto a piece of construction paper. They used q-tips to paint on the foil. It was a fun experience for them. Tuesday, the kids learned about Mat Man. Mat Man (pictured below this paragraph) is a way to build and draw a person from the Handwriting Without Tears curriculum. After learning about Mat Man, the kids got to build and glue their own Mat Men to take home. On Wednesday, the kids got to wear our rain suits outside! I have a class set of Muddy Buddy suits to wear on rainy and wet days. They enjoyed being able to get wet knowing they would stay dry. Both classes LOVED playing with play doh this week. With our younger students, we talked about how play doh doesn't go in our mouths. Ask Your Child: Did you go down the slide this week? Did you go fast or slow? Was it wet? Have a great weekend! Ms. Murray Hi Pre-K Families! Important Dates:
We had a great time in Pre-K this week. We are still building friendships, remembering other friends' names, and exploring our classroom and playground. The kids know that in Pre-K, we don't use the seesaws or the big kid playground (the wooden structure). They also understand that there are different rules if they play on the playground with you. During Morning Meeting time, we are reading our morning message, doing a greeting, dancing to a song, and practicing a yoga move. We are enjoying the different dances and yoga moves. For yoga, we use cards that are called ABC Yoga for Kids. They have a poem to go with each move to help remember each one. So far, we have done the Easy Pose and the Tree Pose. For the students who attended last year, they know how to do these poses already, but are honing in on their skills. Outside, we have been practicing our playground rules again this week. Each child is extremely proud of themselves for knowing how to be safe while we are outside! The garden needed harvesting this Thursday, so we went out and harvested a whole bucket of potatoes. Later in the day, we brushed the dirt off so they can be stored for a future all school snack. Ask Your Child: Have you used the dress up clothes in the classroom? What have you dressed up as? There are tons of pictures this week, enjoy! Have a lovely weekend! Ms. Murray |
