Hi Pre-K Families, Announcements:
International Observe the Moon Night: Fergus' mom, Nikki, is a scientist that provided information about International Observe the Moon night, that she is running with other colleagues of hers. Below is information about it:
I was out on Monday and Tuesday, but I heard they had a ton of fun with the people that covered for me. Wednesday and Thursday were a ton of fun. The kids are really getting into the groove of becoming friends and playing games together. On Wednesday, we discussed dens and habitats. We watched a short 3 minute video about habitats. When we went out to ECO, they spent the entire time collecting big logs and branches to make a den against a tree. They hope a bear will live in it throughout the winter. Inside, they made a den project where they cut up pieces of brown paper to make a den and glued on pictures of animals that live in the forest. They also used dry erase boards with markers, they really liked those! On Thursday, we celebrated the moon by reading books and talking about it's phases. At ECO, they dug holes to put small sticks in and made a huge pile of their collections. We also enjoyed another few rounds of hide and seek. Inside, we all played with the barn and the animals escaped while the farmer was away. When the farmer came back and they all had to go back to the farm, they thought it was very silly. Not many pictures this week, sorry! I will make sure I take a bunch more next week. Have a nice fall weekend, Deanna

Hi Pre-K Families! We had another fun week of getting to know each other and exploring in and out of the classroom. Announcements:
All of the preschool kids had a wonderful week playing and exploring. We have been spending most mornings out in the woods, then head back in for lunch and center time (free play), and then to the playground after. Please see the PDF version of our daily schedule - the schedule is exactly the same for each class. This PDF is also attached to the weekly email. They have had a great time having some free play in the classroom. Many children have enjoyed playing in the water table, especially if there's some soap and a little bit of watercolor added. Easel painting is always a big hit as well. Once they dry, some masterpieces will be coming your way! ECO has been so fun. There has been a ton of digging and pushing sticks into the ground to build fairy houses/houses for mice or squirrels. On Tuesday, the class enjoyed playing hide and seek, taking turns being the seeker. On Wednesday, the class decided they wanted to move a big log. They discussed how to move it, and how many kids it would take to help. It was a wonderful group collaboration! On Thursday, we talked about symmetry. We made a butterfly out of natural materials outside, and then made symmetrical butterflies inside by painting one side of the butterfly and then folding it in half. Have an awesome weekend, Deanna Hi Pre-K Families!
Announcements:
We had a wonderful and fun first week of school. Kids from last year got to see each other again, and meet new friends! We enjoyed playing on the playground and by the rock garden near the front of the school. We have also been trekking out to our outdoor classroom/ECO spot in the woods. We will utilize that space more and more as the year goes on. Both classes practiced "sit spots" this week. At the end of our ECO time, we each find a spot far away from others (perfect time for a mask break!) to sit and listen to what the woods has to say. Since it is the beginning of the school year, sit spots are only for 1 minute, but will gradually get to 2 or 3 minutes as the year progresses. Afterwards, we get together and share one thing that we noticed. Both classes are very small this year. I am looking forward to seeing friendships form. That's all for now. Have a great weekend with your children! Deanna |
