Ms. Murray's Classes
Hi Pre-K Families! Announcements:
This week was so fun! On Monday and Tuesday, both classes enjoyed playing with dyed spaghetti in the sensory table. On Monday, they used spoons to twirl and scoop the spaghetti. On Tuesday, they flexed their scissor skills by scooping it up and cutting the spaghetti into small bits. Also on Monday and Tuesday, they also built large structures with magna-tiles. Many of them built houses and talked about who lived in their houses. On Wednesday and Thursday, they tried q-tip painting. I gave them pictures of a flower, a tree with a sun, and a rainbow, all made up of small circles. They dipped q-tips into paint and filled in all the dots. This took a lot of patience and is quite different than big brush strokes while painting on an easel. On Thursday, we took a walk out to the woods. Knowing that we would be on vacation next week, we needed to make sure there were some people who could take care of our ECO spot while we were away. I broke them up into groups of 3-4 kids each, and gave them a small person made out of card stock. They worked together as teams to build small homes for these people, making sure they stayed warm and dry while we were gone for vacation. They communicated their ideas to one another and were proud of their accomplishments! On Thursday afternoon, a volunteer from KHL came to visit and read stories during our downtime after lunch. His name is James and he will be visiting the classes on occasion. Ask Your Child: Did you play with spaghetti this week? Was it different colors? What colors? Describe how it felt when you touched it. Enjoy this long school break with your children, Ms. Murray

Hello Families! Announcements:
We had a friendship filled week in Pre-K! We discussed a lot about friendship, and how to be a kind and loving friend. On Wednesday and Thursday, we had a great time giving Valentine's to each other. Our class was so filled with love! On Monday & Tuesday we read a Pete the Cat book about Valentine's Day. The moral of the story was that even if you don't make a card for someone, spending time and caring about them are great gifts! We also practiced winking on these days. It was so challenging for them! On Wednesday & Thursday, during our morning meeting, we had a hug as our greeting. We all made sure that we got consent to hug a friend. They learned that if someone said no, they don't hug them and just give them a wave. They decorated their Valentine's Day bags with crayons. After lunch, each child gave them out. They were so excited to take them home! Ask Your Child: Did you decorate a Valentine's Day? Did you give our Valentine's to your friends? Have a great weekend! Ms. Murray Hello Families! Announcements:
We had another snowy and fun week in Pre-K. A main focus of this week was working on fine motor skills. On Monday and Tuesday, they worked on stringing beads onto pipe cleaners to make bracelets or snakes. Using their fingers and hands to do this activity straightens those muscles for other activities like writing, using scissors, buttoning/snapping, and so many others! They loved to find letter beads to either make their name or pick out letters that they know - such as D for dad. The dramatic play is back to normal -- kitchen, dress up clothes, doctor's kit, tools, and a few misc. items. The kids and I will discuss what it could be next over the next few weeks. After vacation, something new will be there! On Tuesday, the students went for a letter hunt all around the school! They carried clipboards with a "dot it" heart activity. Once they found a letter, they used a dot marker to cover up the letter. On Wednesday, we did a similar dot marker activity -- but with numbers. The students rolled dice and dotted whichever heart had the matching dots. Valentine's Day: We will celebrate Valentine's Day in class by celebrating the friendships we share and what friendship means. Over the last week or so, we have been reading books about friendship and talked about what it means to be a good friend. On Wednesday and Thursday of next week, your child can bring in valentines for the class. If you choose to send in valentines, please make sure there is one for each student. I will post class lists below. For 4 and 5 year old students, writing each of their friends name on valentines is a great activity! MW class: Cody, Nicky, Fergus, Jelena, Faith, Brycen, Elijah, Rocky, Emma, Ronnie, Conan, Mason. Total: 12 TTh class: Isabelle, Loren, Blakely, Tristan, Taylor, Elka, Evan, Evelyn, Sophia, Aiden, Seumas, Louisa, Djuna. Total: 13 Ask Your Child: What yoga poses did you do this week? (MW: Swan pose & Chair pose - TTh, Swan pose). Can you show me how you do it? Was it challenging? Have a very safe and snowy weekend, Ms. Murray Hi Families! Announcements:
We had a jam-packed week of fun! First of all, special thanks to Justin, Blakely's dad, for coming in to class on both Monday and Tuesday to talk to the kids about being a firefighter. They enjoyed hearing what he does each day, and thought it was so great to try on his jacket. Thank you, Justin! This was the last week of the fire station in our dramatic play. Many of the kids have started to brainstorm what it could be next. For most of the week, the weather was lovely and we spent quite a bit of time outside. The older students are starting to show their independence by getting all of the gear on by themselves, and the younger students are starting to try it for themselves! It is so exciting to see their faces when they say "I did it!". Building independence is something they can be proud of. Here is a list of things they do for themselves in class, and can do at home as well: taking care of personal belongings (hanging up coat and backpack, putting lunchbox in cubby), clean up after themselves (after meals and play), self help skills (washing hands, toileting, drying hands), dressing themselves (snow gear, putting on and off shoes, sweatshirts, and starting to learn to zipper, snap, and button). We started talking about friendship this week. For Valentine's Day, we celebrate friendship and focus on being kind to others. We read a few books already about friendship, and will continue to do that, while having conversations about what it means to be a good friend. The MW class made a poster about being a good friend - check it out in the hallway next time you're at school! Can you believe it's already February?! Preschool screening for next years students will be scheduled within the next few months. If you have a child who will be 3 by September 1st, or know of Middlesex families that have a child who will be 3 by September 1st, please contact me or have the families contact me by email. Thanks so much! There are a TON of pictures this week :) Ask Your Child: Did a firefighter come to talk to you this week? What did he say? Did you try on his jacket? Have a great rest of your weekend! Ms. Murray |
