Ms. Murray's Classes
Hi Families! Announcements:
Pajama Day Info: What a fun day! Your child can come to school wearing their pajamas and can bring one stuffed animal (that can fit inside their backpack), and a blanket. We will watch The Snowy Day movie and make pancakes! If you have any questions about this, please email me! If you would like to donate syrup and pancake mix, that is just an added bonus. We had a great time this week doing fun winter activities. In both classes, they all enjoyed the winter stickers. They all made so many fun pictures with candy canes, gingerbread cookies, and snowmen! Later in the day/week, we also used those stickers to make patterns. Some kids enjoyed making a patterns of “sparkly” and “not sparkly” stickers. Another fun winter related activity this week was a gingerbread cookie that they colored in. It had lines on it with the numbers 1-5. They colored in the picture and then used scissors to cut it out on or near the lines. After that, they had to glue it on a piece of construction paper to make the picture again. It was a multi step process that required a lot of planning. It was great to see them work through the steps! With this unseasonably warm weather, our playground became a bit of a flood zone. That did not stop the kids at all! The Monday/Tuesday class enjoyed playing in the sandbox filled with water as they scooped and poured using continuers and stirred using spoons/ladles. The weather really warmed up on Thursday and the kiddos in that class had a blast in the water! They were running through it and splashing for almost an hour! They were respectful of one another if someone did not want to be splashed. They also noticed how some things, like sticks, float on the top of the water, but a muffin tin filled with water sunk to the bottom. A fine motor activity we did this week used push pins. I made winter themed dot pictures such as candy canes, a tree, a gingerbread cookie, a mitten, and a snowman. They used push pins to poke holes on each dot. They watched me show them how, and then were extremely slow and calculated as they poked their own holes. I heard a few friends remark that push pins are sharp and to watch out — I love how they take in this information and share it with their friends to make sure their friends are also safe! I find it really important to have kids of this age use things that may be considered too sharp or too dangerous. They are learning real life skills on how to be safe using tools, and all of this is done with proper supervision of course! Ask Your Child: What was the playground like this week? Was it really wet? What did you do with/in the water? Have a great weekend, Deanna
