Ms. Murray's Classes
Hi Pre-K Families, Announcements:
Thank you for the wonderful conferences! It is a true pleasure to talk to you about your children. Monday/Wednesday crew, I missed seeing your kiddos this week. I look forward to seeing them again next week! Eliza had a great day with them on Monday. Here are some phrases we use in the classroom and their meanings. You may hear your child mention these phrases at home:
About a Sad Circle: Yesterday, some of the kids were feeling a little blue on our way in from ECO. I wanted to make sure their feelings were heard and understood by classmates and adults, so we sat down for a circle and called it a sad circle. Each child who was feeling sad explained why they were (I wanted to go first but X went first, etc). I helped the kids format their questions to one another, but they all truly lead the conversation. They even did their own sad circle by themselves back in the classroom. I asked if they wanted me to join them and they told me that they "got it" and didn't need my help. How amazing! On Tuesday, the kids initiated fairy tale play outside during ECO. They acted out Little Red Riding Hood and The Three Little Pigs. They all took turns being either the story teller, red riding hood, the wolf, or the three pigs. There's a new castle set and additional pieces to the trains/train tracks. They worked together as a whole class to build a very big train track with bridges and had the track split off into different directions. We kept it out all day long for them to play with it. At ECO yesterday, we spent about 30 minutes looking for good climbing trees. We settled on one that we found, and we did some risky play by climbing it. Each child only climbed as far as they felt comfortable with, and had a great time jumping off of it while holding my hands. If you are interested in learning the benefits of risky play, here is a great resource. Have a great weekend & stay safe, Deanna
