Ms. Murray's Classes
Hi Families! Announcements:
About conferences: We will meet on zoom (I will send out a reminder beforehand!). Prior to the conference, I will give you a progress report that has some fun pictures of your child and we will talk about how much they love school! *If your conference is scheduled before your child’s school day this week — for example if you have a conference on Tuesday, but your child doesn’t come to school until Wednesday, I will screen share to show you the progress report and give you the hard copy on Wednesday.* Conference time is a great time to ask me ANY questions at all. I am always happy to help! I look forward to meeting with all of you :) It is starting to get pretty chilly and we did have a bit of snow on Thursday. Please make sure your child is coming to school every day with waterproof mittens. Thin knit gloves were great for the last few weeks, but now it is a little too cold for that. On Monday, there was a delivery from a very large truck! We were on the playground and decided to go and check it out. Everyone was speculating what was in the truck and why it was at school. It was food! We watched the delivery people bring the food and milk into school on carts. We stood outside and looked at the truck and compared big and small things. For example: “Is a car bigger or smaller than the truck? Is the truck bigger or smaller than the school?” Also on Monday, we used a hand mixer to make fluffy soapy water to play in. They had a blast! In both classes, we practiced giving “haircuts” to paper bags and construction paper people. This is great to build on their fine motor skills to use scissors. If your child is 3, I will gently help with directions and examples on how to use scissors. I am not that concerned about it being “right” and are more concerned about them being safe! Something that is helpful for kiddos is to put the scissors on the table so and help them put their thumb in the smaller part and keep their thumb “towards the sky” so they will have a reminder on how to hold it. We also ripped paper and masking tape which are preparations for mastering using scissors. On Wednesday, we read a book called Sweater Weather by Matt Phelan. It is a sweet story about a grown up bear and seven baby bears who need to get their sweaters on. By the time the bears get all their sweaters on and get outside, it’s dark out! After we read the story, we glued yarn onto construction paper sweaters. The MT class will do this next week. On Thursday, it started snowing while we were on the playground! Everyone was running around so excited. I heard one friend yell out how happy they were that it is FINALLY snowing! While on the playground, we played with trucks and other items from the shed. When we went inside, we played the board game Snail’s Pace Race. Everyone gathered around and took turns rolling the die to see which snail would make it across the finish line first! Ask Your Child: What was the temperature like on the playground this week? Have a great weekend! Deanna
